Golfing legend accepts Honourary Membership of the Station Masters
The Station Masters Golf Club are honoured
that Peter Alliss, former Ryder Cup player and legendary golf commentator
with the BBC, has
accepted our invitation to become the first ever Honourary Member of the Club.
In his distinguished career, Peter won 21 professional tournaments, including
three British PGA Championships. He represented Great Britain in the Ryder Cup
over an incredible 12 year period, from 1953 until 1965 before retiring from
playing. Peter has gone on to forge a career in broadcasting with the BBC and
has been described as 'The greatest golf commentator ever' (Golf Digest).
Now in his 70s, Peter along with his partner Dave Thomas, designed our home
course, The Buddon, and as we all know it has developed into a fantastic course,
worthy of its place alongside the Burnside and Championship. He obviously has a
hectic schedule during Open week, but we hope to present Peter with his
Honourary Membership at some stage during the week - we will let you know when
as soon as we know.... so keep logging-on.
Jessica Meek becomes first lady ever to win the Nicol Cup
Station Masters member, Jessica Meek (13)
has become the first ever female (and first ever Station Masters member) to
win the Nicol Cup in the history of the tournament. Jessica played Gary Lawrence
in the final over the Burnside Course in extremely wet conditions and eventually
went on to win by 2 holes. Jessica's coach and dad, the extremely reserved Dave
Meek, was overheard prior to the match to have reminded Jessica that if she
didn't win - there would be no tea for her that evening. (Only joking David!).
Well done Jessica and we hope that this is the first of many trophies you go
on to win.
Scene nearly set for greatest golf challenge
Carnoustie Golf Links is almost ready to
receive the world's golfing elite. Tiger has had his bairn and is reported to be
ready to play, Garcia probably won't be crying as he leaves the 18th green this
time, and Monty might manage at least one smile. Who knows, Jean Van de Velde
may shock us all... again. Whatever happens, its sure to be a great spectacle
and for all our overseas members who can't make it over - unlucky!
New temporary advice spot hits the site
Following Steve Logan's announcement of his 6 week sabbatical, local expert gardener, erstwhile plumber and no bad fiddler, Tommy Horne, jumped at the chance to get one over on his old gardening rival Captain Campbell. When invited to guest his own gardening tips spot on our website, Tommy claimed * Wattie kens bu--er all aboot gerdnin. He uses his greenhoose for siestas in the efternin". Tommy's gardening tips can be found on Tommy's Gardening Tips page.
